SWR PROVIDE JUST CAR CLINICS WITH GREENER, COST EFFECTIVE WASTE MANAGEMENT
Thursday 19th May, 2011 SWR, the UK’s only waste management company with specialist recycling services designed specifically for the automotive industry, has won the waste contract for Just Car Clinics.
Just Car Clinics is the second largest independent chain of collision repair centres in the UK. Specialising in motor collision repair and accident damage rectification for cars, vans and motorbikes, the company carries out repairs to approximately 45,000 vehicles every year. The group, which was set up in 2003, has seen immense growth and today employs more than 620 staff across its 25 branches located across the North, East and central England. Group Compliance Manager at Just Car Clinics, Andrew Firbank, said: "It was important for us to find a solution that would improve our green footprint and centralise our current waste collection through one company removing all our waste on all our sites and maximising our group purchasing power. “After looking at various options we decided that the best fit for us was SWR. Our waste removal requirements have changed considerably over the last 18 months as we have diversified as a business into fitting tyres and carrying out vehicle servicing and maintenance, as well as the waste created by our core business of vehicle body repair. SWR have been able to offer us a seamless process in the hand over between them and our current waste contractors and also are able to offer a far higher level of recycling, while delivering a 15% cost reduction.” SWR will now manage the waste from each of the Just Car Clinic sites under a new simplified single contract. SWR will also ensure that they are adhering to the best environmental practices available and that they remain fully compliant with the strict legislation surrounding waste management in the automotive industry. Head of SWR’s Automotive Division, Richard Brown, said: “We conducted an initial audit across each of the Just Car Clinics sites to establish the types and quantities of waste produced. We were quickly able to identify savings across practically every type of waste they were producing, from hazardous and non-hazardous, to recyclables, such as card, paper, metal, solvents, plastic, packaging, wood, glass, tyres, bumpers and paint waste. “We have implemented a unique segregation system that ensures almost all packaging, car components and body parts are recycled and that any hazardous substances are disposed of in an effective manner.” A combination of hazardous waste services management, the use of key sub-contractors, along with SWR’s strong recycling ethos has helped to create a cost effective waste management solution. This will not only help streamline the entire waste process and improve recycling performance by 75 percent, but ultimately save Just Car Clinics on their waste management costs. Upon commencement of the contract, in June 2011, SWR will provide regular reporting on Just Car Clinics’ recycling performance and duty of care, which will ensure they can demonstrate their green credentials.
