20/04/2009 - JCC kicks off fundraising with Leeds football tournament

The UK’s second largest independent collision repair chain is set to kick off its fundraising efforts for a road safety charity, with a football tournament in Leeds this weekend.Just Car Clinics (JCC), which has signed up 23 teams to play in the tournament this weekend, is supporting Brake, which runs national campaigns to encourage people to be more careful and considerate drivers, throughout 2009.

It’s a cause that is close to the hearts of staff across the group, not only because they work in an industry which sees thousands of people adversely affected by road traffic accidents (RTAs) every year, but also because they tragically lost a colleague from JCC’s Wakefield branch two years ago.

Members of the JCC team both at the Leeds branch and from across the group, along with its corporate clients and suppliers will converge on Farsley Celtic Football Club Ground, in Farsley, Leeds, on Sunday, April 26, for a football tournament to raise funds for the charity which supports the families of those involved in crashes and also runs education and awareness campaigns.

These include National Road Safety Week, their 2Young2Die campaign, educating young people, nationwide, about driving safely, and education programmes with parents and young children.  Each team has been asked to raise at least £100 in order to enter the tournament, which will finish with a BBQ and activities for all, and organizers are hoping to raise at least £2,000 throughout the day.

Dawn Swales, HR Manager at JCC’s support centre in Goole, who is coordinating the fundraising events along with her colleague Sarah-Jane Evans, said: “We are so pleased to be working on such a worthwhile charity campaign.

“The football tournament will be a fun event for everyone involved and is only the start in terms of what we have planned for the rest of the year. We are also planning a charity parachute jump, golf tournament and fire walk, as well as raffling off a moped and a range of other prizes.”

Brake runs campaigns including encouraging the government to introduce tougher driving tests to raise the standard of drivers and trying to increase the number of traffic police and enforcement measures to make our roads safer. The charity also runs the Forgotten Victims campaign, campaigning for more government support for those bereaved and injured in road crashes.
