18/02/2009 - Durham team works together to reach Kitemark

The Durham branch of Just Car Clinics (JCC) is the latest in the UK’s second largest independent collision repair chain to acquire the BSI Kitemark.

The standard is the worldwide recognised symbol of trust, integrity and quality and was developed by the British Standards Institute (BSI) in association with industry stakeholders.

Ian Anderson, branch manager of JCC’s Durham branch, explained that achieving the required standard was a real team effort from everyone at Durham.

He said: “The rigorous quality processes that we needed to go through started in July 2008 and a lot of hard work and effort went in to ensuring that we made the grade. That has meant all of the team up-skilling and acquiring new qualifications and the team here really worked together to obtain the Kitemark. I am really proud of each and every member of the team and I personally really enjoyed all of the work that went into this – and the sleepless nights – because it is one of the biggest projects I have ever undertaken.

“The Kitemark is a really recognisable symbol and is really important to customers, businesses and insurance companies. As a result, I am certain that we will enjoy increased levels of business at the branch because people know that we can carry out repairs of the highest quality.”

Barry Whittles, JCC’s chief executive, added: “We already work to a high level across all of our sights in order to satisfy the standards and high quality of work required by our customers and Durham was no exception. However, the team went the extra mile and raised their game even higher and I am delighted that the branch has acquired the Kitemark. We are leading the way in complying with insurance company requirements and giving customers real confidence in our ability.”

JCC is aiming to achieve Kitemark PAS 125:2007 at all 23 of its sites by the end of the year. To date, only around 250 vehicle body repair shops across the country have achieved the new standard. As part of the Kitemark standard, regular, unannounced BSI audits will ensure that the standards of JCC’s people, repair methods, equipment, materials, quality control checks, processes management and internal audits are maintained.
