26/06/2008 - Just Car Clinics branches set to follow Hull’s lead

The Hull branch of Just Car Clinics (JCC) is the first amongst the UK’s second largest independent collision repair chain to acquire the BSI Kitemark.

The Hull site was chosen as JCC’s pilot scheme last year and members of the team there have been working tirelessly since then to ensure they achieved the acclaimed specification, which was developed by the British Standards Institute (BSI) in association with industry stakeholders.

The motorist, as well as passengers and pedestrians, will be the biggest beneficiary of the Kitemark Vehicle Body Repair scheme as it is their lives that this scheme is seeking to protect. The kitemark demonstrates BSI and the vehicle body repair industry is serious about safety and the Kitemark scheme not only delivers safe services but helps the customer to identify them through a recognised symbol.

To date, only around 250 vehicle body repair shops across the country have achieved the new standard and JCC’s management team believe that they are the only site in Hull to have acquired the new Kitemark. John Pattinson, general manager of JCC’s Hull branch, said: “This has taken us to another level and provides customers with reassurance about the standard of the work that we carry out, giving them confidence in the quality and safety of our vehicle body repairs. Everyone recognises that the Kitemark is a marker of quality work.”

Now, JCC are extending the program ensure they acquire Kitemark status at all 21 sites and work is already underway to reach the required standards by the end of the year. Regular, unannounced BSI audits will ensure that the standards of JCC’s people, repair methods, equipment, materials, quality control checks, processes management and internal audits are maintained.

JCC’s team of body repair specialists in Hull also had to be Automotive Technician Accrediation (ATA) registered to meet BSI standards – this means that individuals must pass a comprehensive and rigorous series of tests of their practical skills and knowledge, with registered technicians bound by a Code of Conduct and subject to regular re-assessment.

Barry Whittles, JCC’s chief executive, added: “The work at Hull is just the start and we expect to achieve the Kitemark at all of our sites by the end of the year. This puts us ahead of our competitors and ensures that we lead the way in complying with insurance company requirements that will eventually see all bodyshops having to reach this standard if they want to continue to repair vehicles.”
