24/01/2008 - Decade of on the road estimating clocked up
This year, JCC celebrate the 10th anniversary of mobile estimating.
When Kirk Ogle hit the road as JCC’s first mobile estimator nobody at the company really knew how successful the job would be. This year, JCC celebrate the 10th anniversary of mobile estimating, which sees estimators travel to vehicles at the driver’s convenience rather than drivers being forced to get their vehicles to a JCC depot. Kirk, 41, spent five years covering all of JCC’s branches. In ten years, though, the team has grown from one to six and the service looks set to keep expanding. Kirk, who is based in Sheffield, said: “It’s never a good time when people have had a crash. Understandably, people aren’t happy and really don’t want to deal with the inconvenience of transporting a car to a depot. So I go to them, whether at work or home, anywhere really. And I really do mean anywhere; in ten years I’ve been to prisons, hospitals, even crematoriums although a lot of the time it’s people’s offices or their own driveways. I’ve even been on some jobs where a husband has driven his car into his wife’s. Those kind of jobs can be unusual, tense situations.” On an average day Kirk, a former panel beater and paint spray specialist, estimates the repair bills for around five cars and, if jobs are in close proximity, up to 12 vehicles. After he has estimated the repair work, Kirk will liaise with a JCC depot, where parts will be waiting and repairs carried out as soon as possible. “It can amaze people that, when their car does go in for repair, everything is already there waiting for them. “I’ve met lots of people and been to a lot of places in ten years and I’ve got to say that this is a really interesting job. Mobile estimation really benefits the customers and helps make the process of arranging repair work a lot easier than it would otherwise be.” Barry Whittles, JCC’s chief executive, said: “Kirk has been here since the beginning of our mobile estimation service and we’re delighted that he remains an integral part of the team. The success enjoyed by our mobile estimating team is further evidence of our commitment to delivering exceptional customer service.”
