DON’T BE AN APRIL FOOL ON THE ROAD
One of the UK’s leading accident repair chains, Just Car Clinics is warning motorists to be extra vigilant as they take to the roads the Easter.
The Easter break is traditionally the start of the UK tourist season. As the first bank holiday of the year approaching motorists are being advised to plan car trips carefully to avoid accidents.
With more than 12 million drivers are expected to take to the roads in the coming weeks the number of car accidents is set to increase by up to 20 per cent. While most accidents will be for nothing more than a bump or scratch, the potential for such a huge rise in accidents should serve as a refreshing reminder to all drivers.
Just Car Clinics, who last year repaired over XX 000 cars, surveyed its team of accident repair specialists to discover the most common causes of accidents at this time of year. Coming out on top was…
Barry Whittles Chief Executive at Just Car Clinics said: "Easter is the first opportunity of the year for families to spend quality time together, and for many this will mean a trip in the car. We see thousands of cars come into our workshops every year that have been in accidents that could have been avoided. As you head out this bank holiday be extra vigilant and ensure a safe and pleasurable journey for you and your family.”
To reduce your likelihood of been involved in an accident this bank holiday Just Car Clinics offers these 'driving tips':
1. Plan ahead. Check your route for possible delays and roadworks’s before setting out and listen to radio travel bulletins.
2. Allow plenty of time for your journey and don't forget to stop for a break at least once every two hours. Tiredness kills!
3. Stay calm on the road, and drive safely. Poor driver behaviour causes frustration and increases the risk of accidents:
4. Make sure your vehicle is in good condition, and you and your passengers are prepared for a long journey.
5. See what’s coming. Top up your washer fluid and check your wiper blades.
6. Check your tires. Make sure your tires are in good condition and properly inflated. Worn treads and low tire pressure can increase the risk of your vehicle hydroplaning on wet roads.
7. Flash your headlights. Check both low and high beams before heading out to see if all of the bulbs are working.
8. Check the brakes. Make sure your brakes are responsive by tapping them lightly.
9. As warmer weather approaches, more people will be outdoors. Keep an extra eye out for cyclists, children and pedestrians.
10. With brighter, sunnier weather on its way don’t forget your sunglasses!
